Allison Thacker
Allison K. Thacker has been a dedicated advocate for educational equity for over twenty years, beginning her journey as a founding board member of KIPP Heartwood Academy in East San Jose. Since moving to Houston in 2011, she has been a consistent volunteer and board member for KIPP in Houston, most recently completing her term as the Board Chair for KIPP Texas Public Schools. In this role, she provided strategic leadership for a statewide network that now encompasses 54 schools
and serves nearly 31,000 students.
While a passionate supporter of KIPPsters, Allison is also a recognized leader in the Houston community. From 2011 to 2024, she served as the President and Chief Investment Officer of the Rice Management Company. Under her stewardship, the Rice University endowment grew
to over $8 billion, a financial foundation that supports more than 40% of the university’s operating budget and significantly expands student financial aid. Following her tenure as CIO, Allison served as a Special Advisor to the university until her retirement in September 2025.
A proud Rice alumna with an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, Allison’s commitment to Houston extends across the city’s civic landscape. In addition to her work with KIPP, she serves on the boards of the Houston Endowment, the Houston Ballet, and the Memorial Hermann Foundation. Allison is honored to be part of the KIPP Texas family as they continue to prove what is possible in public education.
